Castle School, a small therapeutic school
in Cambridge, has become affiliated
with Germaine Lawrence. Castle is a residential and day
school that serves fragile adolescents ages 13-18 who thrive
in a small, personalized setting.
Castle, like many other social service providers,
has struggled financially over the past few years. In order
to continue serving their students and families, Castle chose
to join with a larger provider and approached Germaine Lawrence.
We believe that the Castle School is an important
community resource, and we will use our marketing and referral
networks to help Castle remain a viable program. Castle School
will continue to operate as a separate entity as Germaine
Lawrence contributes its programmatic expertise to ensure
that their students and families are best served.

website.

Mark your calendar for our 7th Annual
Women of Excellence Breakfast on Thursday, November 13 from
7:30 am to 9:00 am at the Harvard Club, 374 Commonwealth
Avenue in Boston. We are pleased to welcome back Attorney
General Martha Coakley as our Mistress of Ceremonies.
Each year at our event, we give out Women
of Excellence and Rising Stars awards. Women of Excellence
and Rising Stars are outstanding women who have made substantial
contributions toward advancing the well being of girls.
We have the great pleasure of honoring
the following Women of Excellence at this year’s breakfast:
- Carol Johnson, Superintendent
of Boston Public Schools and a relentless advocate for
quality of education for all children.
- Kelly O’Connell, Sergeant
Detective in the Boston Police Department and head of
the Boston Area Human Trafficking Task Force.
- Anne Strong, Executive
Director of CityKicks, a developmental soccer program
provided after school to underserved inner city girls.
In addition, we will recognize two Rising Stars, who are
young women who in the early stages of their careers have
displayed leadership and accomplishment in the social service
fields.
- Lindsay Hyde, founder
of Strong Women, Strong Girls, a nonprofit organization
that creates a mentoring relationship between college
students and young girls

Thank you for supporting Germaine Lawrence's 15th
Annual Dinner and Auction Benefit that was held on Sunday,
April 13, 2008.
We raised a record $245,000 that will go towards
helping our girls rebuild their lives. In particular, we are
very grateful for the generous contributions we received to
help us launch our new group home for girls who have been
commercially sexually exploited.
We extend a special thank you to Winston Flowers,
for their very generous donation, and to all of our other
business supporters. For a list of our corporate supporters,

Listen to a radio diary of a Germaine
Lawrence student as she prepares to return home. The radio
diary was the outcome of a student project led by volunteer
Lee Fuoco and was aired on WBUR. Click

Thanks to The Art Connection, our Administrative
Building and Hirshberg Treatment Center now display wonderful
works of art by area artists. The Art Connection acts as
a clearinghouse for area artists who wish to donate their
art to non-profit agencies. We are very fortunate to have
works of art for our students, staff and visitors to enjoy.
