The Merck Center at Germaine Lawrence is a private residential treatment center for clinically complex and treatment resistant adolescent girls. Located in a shady residential neighborhood just minutes from Boston and Cambridge, the Merck Center provides a supportive, safe haven for girls who have been making choices that interfere with their family life, academic progress, and social development. Our newly constructed treatment center lays just outside the main Germaine Lawrence campus.
The Merck Center can help you and your daughter. Girls who thrive at the Merck Center struggle with:
- Reactive attachment disorders
- Medically fragile, including girls with eating disorders, diabetes or asthma
- Trauma
- Clinical depression with suicidal ideation
- Alcohol or drug use
- Lack of success at less structured therapeutic schools.
Your daughter will get a lot of individual attention at the Merck Center to ensure that she is learning and making progress on her goals. We have low student to staff ratios, with one counselor or teacher for every three students. Our therapists have small case loads so that they are very available for the girls and their families. All clinicians have advanced training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), an evidence-based method that has been proven effective for adolescents with challenging, high risk behaviors.
Your daughter will also receive top medical care while at the Merck Center. Board-certified child psychiatrists are available five days per week. Our nursing staff are on-site seven days per week. A physician from Boston Children’s Hospital who specializes in adolescent medicine is available weekly and refers students to Children’s Hospital for other specialized medical care. In addition, a dentist provides treatment onsite monthly.
The Merck Center also provides short term assessment and stabilization services. Click here to learn more about these services.
